Hide & Seek Is For Kids, Not Your Business

Episode 12

If you can’t be found… you can’t be trusted.

That may sound harsh, but in today’s world, it’s the truth.

Too many insurance agents are still operating like it’s 2005 - relying solely on referrals, word of mouth, or hoping their product knowledge alone will somehow build a thriving business. They’re hiding behind carrier brochures, outdated profiles, incomplete social pages, or worse… no digital presence at all.

And while they’re hiding?

Other agents are getting found.

Every day, prospects are searching:

“Medicare agent near me.”
“Best life insurance agent in my area.”
“Who can help me with retirement?”

The question is…

When they search, do they find YOU?

Your Visibility Is Your Credibility

We live in a world where people Google before they trust.

Before someone books an appointment…
Before they answer your call…
Before they respond to your postcard…
Before they trust you with one of the biggest financial and healthcare decisions of their life…

They look you up.

And what they find (or don’t find) shapes their decision.

A polished Google Business Profile, strong reviews, educational content, an optimized LinkedIn, or an active Facebook presence can create trust before you ever speak.

But an empty profile?

No reviews?

No photo?

No content?

That doesn’t just make you look inactive.

It makes you look untrustworthy.

The Internet Does Not Forget… But It Can Forget You

One of the biggest misconceptions agents have is:
“I get enough referrals.”

That may feel true.

But here’s the real question:

How many opportunities are you losing that you never even knew existed?

Referrals are powerful—but referrals without validation are weaker.

When someone is referred to you, what do they do next?

They Google you.

And if your online presence is weak, outdated, or nonexistent…
You create doubt.

Your prospect starts wondering:

  • Are they legitimate?

  • Are they active?

  • Are they credible?

  • Why can’t I find anything about them?

Even if you’re excellent at what you do…

Invisibility creates uncertainty.

And uncertainty kills trust.

Stop Confusing Humility With Hiding

A lot of agents avoid putting themselves online because they don’t want to seem arrogant.

They think:
“I don’t want to brag.”
“I’m not good on camera.”
“I don’t know what to post.”
“What if people judge me?”

But visibility is not vanity.

Visibility is service.

Educating people online…
Answering common Medicare questions…
Explaining life insurance strategies…
Helping people understand retirement risks…

That isn’t bragging.

That’s leadership.

Your silence doesn’t make you humble.

It makes you harder to trust.

Done Is Better Than Perfect

Here’s another trap:
Agents wait until everything is perfect before they start.

Perfect website.
Perfect logo.
Perfect videos.
Perfect social strategy.

Meanwhile…

Someone with a smartphone and a simple educational post is building trust every single day.

Your first content doesn’t need to be perfect.
Your first video doesn’t need to be polished.
Your first Google review strategy doesn’t need to be flawless.

It just needs to exist.

Because imperfect visibility will outperform perfect invisibility every time.

Your Online Presence Should Do Three Things:

1. Prove You Exist

This sounds simple, but many agents fail here.

Make it easy for people to find.

2. Demonstrate Capacity

People need proof you know what you’re doing.

3. Build Familiarity

People buy from people they feel they know.

By the time they talk to you…
They should already feel more comfortable.

Reviews Matter More Than You Think

Your clients’ words often carry more weight than your own.

A review says:
“Someone trusted this person… and it went well.”

And no - you do not need to look perfect.

In fact…

A few imperfect reviews can actually make you more believable.

Consumers are skeptical of businesses that look too polished.
Authenticity wins.

The goal isn’t perfection.

The goal is trust.

Hidden Agents Get Passed Over

This is the hard truth:

If two agents are equally licensed…
Equally knowledgeable…
Equally capable…

But one has:

  • 150 Google reviews

  • Educational content

  • Strong LinkedIn

  • Social proof

  • Clear branding

…and the other has an empty Facebook page from 2018…

Who do you think wins?

Exactly.

Final Thought: Stop Playing Hide & Seek

Hide & Seek is for kids.

Not your business.

You are not building a hobby.
You are building a reputation.
You are building trust.
You are building an asset.

And in 2026…

If people can’t find you, they can’t trust you.

If they can’t trust you, they won’t choose you.

So stop waiting.
Stop hiding.
Stop overthinking.

Be visible.
Be credible.
Be searchable.

Because the agents who win tomorrow…
Are the ones willing to be seen today.
